The Splendid Sampler

The Splendid Sampler - a 2016 mystery quilt-a-long by Pat Sloan & Jane Davidson at splendidsampler.com.  Every week 2 - 6" block patterns would appear on their website by over 80 different on-line designers.   I do not think they missed a quilting technique - paper piecing, hand & machine appliqué, embroidery, etc.

I used Miniature Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings fabric.

There are 110 blocks featured - the 100 mystery & 10 bonus blocks.  I used left over fabrics to back it and rented the long-arm at Cedar House to quilt it.

It finished at 88" x 96" and is on the spare bedroom downstairs.

I do not think I will be doing another quilt like this or this size again.

Project 48 Quilt

2016 BOM Project 48 - for project48.com

This was a mystery quilt-a-long.  Each week 2 - 9"-block patterns were featured on their website, for 24 weeks.  They featured every type of quilting - appliqué, hexagons, etc.  I used material only from stash and early on decided I would do diagonal rows with a colour theme - blue, brown, green yellow, pink, purple, red, turquoise, orange.  It finished at 63" x 84".  I backed it with white with yellow stars flannel and bonded it with striped fabric.

This was the first quilt I rented a long-arm to finish it.  It presently resided in the cottage at Hecla.

Andrea's 30th birthday quilt

My daughter, Andrea, turned 30 on June 15, 2017.  I decided to make her a quilt for this occasion.

I started in January 2016 with BOM Dear Daughter with RebeccaMayDesigns.com.  I used mostly fabric I had.  It consists of 12 blocks - machine & hand appliqué - words of encouragement, etc.

It finished at 72" x 90" and I backed it with grey flannel.  I free motioned quilted it - took forever.

Her dad & I drove out to see her in June for her birthday with this quilt and her 30-year photo book I created of her first 30 years!

Frank's Quilt

My brother-in-law, Frank, has not been feeling well - lungs, heart, etc and he is always feeling cold.  I decided to make him a warm lap quilt for when he lies on the couch.  I had bought this material when Don & I traveled to Florida, and it seemed to be calling his name.

This is Pacific Reflections, a Cindi McCracken Design - pack of 2.5" batik strips - design features 2 blocks: light block with medium/dark centre & dark block with light/medium centre.  It was 58" x 60".

I rented the long-arm quilting machine in Lockport and backed it with minky (for warmth).  I also sewed up a pillowcase in matching colours.

I gave him the quilt the end of October 2017 - hopefully he is actually using it!

Bloom

Completed the quilt Bloom from Lori Hold at Bee in My Bonnet website - it was a quilt-a-long.  I enjoyed applique, saw this one, bought her material and enjoyed the process.  It used Calico Days fabric and finished at 60" x 72".

Quilt Block for Sue Spargo

Sue Spargo, the wonderful creator of the wool BOM quilt hangings I have been doing has been diagnosed with cancer & her family asked each of us to prepare a square for her back in May/June.  When they had received them all -they sewed them into a quilt for Sue!!

The left is the block I prepared - in honour of the butterfly hanging I did from her Craftsy course & on the right is my block amongst other blocks.

So exciting to be a part of this project for a wonderful instructor!!

My Whimsical Garden

I wanted to learn how to applique better & found this quilt - My Whimsical Garden by Piece o'Cake in 2014.  Using my stash I worked on it and finally finished it in 2016.  I had entered it in the Gimli/Interlake Quilt Show in August 2016 and finished it 2 days before the show!

I machine pieced, hand appliqued, and free motion quilted the top (edging in the squares and pebbles in the border.  I received 2nd place for People's Choice Award & $50 gift certificate at local quilt shop - very unexpected, but delightful!!

It measures 75" length x 65" width.  It now hangs in our cottage in Hecla!
