I have created this blog to share my 'doings' with others. Now that I am retired I am able to do all the things I never had the time for. I hope you enjoy my endeavours.

The Splendid Sampler
The Splendid Sampler - a 2016 mystery quilt-a-long by Pat Sloan & Jane Davidson at splendidsampler.com. Every week 2 - 6" block patterns would appear on their website by over 80 different on-line designers. I do not think they missed a quilting technique - paper piecing, hand & machine appliqué, embroidery, etc.
I used Miniature Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings fabric.
There are 110 blocks featured - the 100 mystery & 10 bonus blocks. I used left over fabrics to back it and rented the long-arm at Cedar House to quilt it.
It finished at 88" x 96" and is on the spare bedroom downstairs.
I do not think I will be doing another quilt like this or this size again.
Project 48 Quilt
2016 BOM Project 48 - for project48.com
This was a mystery quilt-a-long. Each week 2 - 9"-block patterns were featured on their website, for 24 weeks. They featured every type of quilting - appliqué, hexagons, etc. I used material only from stash and early on decided I would do diagonal rows with a colour theme - blue, brown, green yellow, pink, purple, red, turquoise, orange. It finished at 63" x 84". I backed it with white with yellow stars flannel and bonded it with striped fabric.
This was the first quilt I rented a long-arm to finish it. It presently resided in the cottage at Hecla.
Andrea's 30th birthday quilt
My daughter, Andrea, turned 30 on June 15, 2017. I decided to make her a quilt for this occasion.
I started in January 2016 with BOM Dear Daughter with RebeccaMayDesigns.com. I used mostly fabric I had. It consists of 12 blocks - machine & hand appliqué - words of encouragement, etc.
It finished at 72" x 90" and I backed it with grey flannel. I free motioned quilted it - took forever.
Her dad & I drove out to see her in June for her birthday with this quilt and her 30-year photo book I created of her first 30 years!
Frank's Quilt
My brother-in-law, Frank, has not been feeling well - lungs, heart, etc and he is always feeling cold. I decided to make him a warm lap quilt for when he lies on the couch. I had bought this material when Don & I traveled to Florida, and it seemed to be calling his name.
This is Pacific Reflections, a Cindi McCracken Design - pack of 2.5" batik strips - design features 2 blocks: light block with medium/dark centre & dark block with light/medium centre. It was 58" x 60".
I rented the long-arm quilting machine in Lockport and backed it with minky (for warmth). I also sewed up a pillowcase in matching colours.
I gave him the quilt the end of October 2017 - hopefully he is actually using it!
